Racist Man in NYC Threatens to Call ICE on Spanish-Speaking Employees

In New York City of all places, a metropolis home to 8.6 million people from around the globe, where around 200 languages are spoken (according to Mayor Bill DeBlasio), a white man railed at employees and customers of Fresh Kitchen for speaking Spanish.

“Your staff is speaking Spanish to customers when they should be speaking English!” the man, who allegedly has a serious adult job of owning a law firm near the restaurant, yelled. The tantrum continues with the man pointing out every person who committed the crime of speaking their native language: “Every person I listen to: He spoke it, he spoke it, she’s speaking it! This is America,” he announces in the city that has historically been the national entry point for speakers of many languages.

“My guess is they’re not documented. So my next call is to ICE to have each one of them kicked out of my country,” the man tells an employee. The man apparently owns America.

According to CNN: “CNN has called and left messages at the law office the man apparently owns but has not heard back. After the incident, people inundated the law firm’s social media accounts with messages.”

Fortunately, onlookers stuck up for the targets of the man’s tantrum. One woman diverted his attention away from his targets, mockingly daring the man to go ahead and call ICE. “Maybe you shouldn’t eat that sandwich, take a break from the food,” retorted the man who apparently owns America before leaving the store. She also called the police to report the incident as a public disturbance, but the man was gone before any type of confrontation with law enforcement could occur.

Fresh Kitchen responded to the incident with CNN in an email saying the restaurant welcomes people of all backgrounds, and that “everyone has a mind of their own, the company said, ‘But in (a) public area, disturbing others or making (a) comment like that is not right at all.'”
