According to a new court filing, the Trump administration has deported 471 parents from the United States without their children.
As CNN notes, some of those parents were forced to leave the country “without being given the opportunity to elect or waive reunification” despite a court order that essentially blocked family separations back in June.
The information has become public after a lawsuit related to the Trump administration’s family separation policy was filed. The American Civil Liberties Union asked that officials accurately track the number of separations in an effort to also track reunifications.
The ACLU is representing immigrants who have been separated from their own children by the U.S. government in a class action lawsuit.
The family separation policy was blocked by a federal judge in June 2018.
