Researchers at Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History discovered that a 300-year-old statue of Jesus contains actual human teeth. The team conducted x-rays on the “Lord of Patience,” sculpture—which resides at the parish of San Bartolo Cuautlalpan—and found that eight teeth used on the face of Christ had belonged to an adult at some point. The director of Mexico’s National School of Restoration, Conservation and Museology said, “The teeth were probably donated as a token of gratitude.
