It’s official—Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is now the richest person on Earth with a net worth of $90.9 billion. That’s slightly more than Bill Gate’s measly $90.7 billion.
It’s the first time in four years Gates hasn’t held the top spot.
Notably, Bill and Melinda Gates have made a commitment to give most of their fortune away, and recently, Bezos has expressed a deeper interest in philanthropy.
Last month, he asked Twitter followers to help him think of charities to support, saying, “I’m thinking I want much of my philanthropic activity to be helping in the here and now—short term—at the intersection of urgent need and lasting impact.”
