There’s been some encouraging news from South Sudan. Following meetings yesterday with leaders of several neighboring countries, the government of South Sudan is prepared to commit to an immediate ceasefire. The leader of the rebel group that is engaged in violence against government forces, sparking ethnic clashes and fights over oil reserves, is being encouraged to also agree to end the fighting. The East African Body Inter-Governmental Authority on Development is asking that each of the warring factions meet for face-to-face peace talks next week, in hopes of putting an end to the violence that has left more than 120,000 displaced throughout the country …
