If you were like any other normal, adventure-loving kid, you probably begged your parents to send you to a magical place called space camp. It was a getaway destination where children would be equipped with the skills for their inevitable future career as astronauts—and got to eat that awesome freeze dried space food. If you missed your opportunity as a kid, then we’ve got good news: There is now an Adult Space Camp.
In this column, an LA Times reporter describes her visit to U.S. Space & Rocket Center Adult Space Camp in Huntsville, Ala., and it is as awesome as it sounds. Adult campers live a in dorm with other astronaut wanna-be’s, ride in one of those cool, spinning G-force simulators, take part in mock-spacewalks, meet former NASA space travelers and do actual astronaut training. Don’t worry; if a week off of work and the ridicule of all of your friends for attending adult space camp is too much for you to handle, than you can just go see Gravity, which will immediately eliminate any desire to ever go to space …
