Supreme Court Upholds Lower Court’s Decision to Overturn Proposition 8

In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court has ruled that supporters of the California same-sex marriage ban, known as Proposition 8, did not have the right to appeal an initial lower court’s decision that ruled against the ban. The court’s decision was essentially predicated on jurisdiction issues, and justices did not comment on the validity of an actual ban on same-sex marriage, which has been passed in three states in addition to California.
