The latest round of peace talks between Syrian government officials and opposition representatives ended this weekend following a final discussion that lasted just 27 minutes. The UN mediator overseeing talks even issued an apology to the people of Syria, after no progress was made toward ending the conflict that has resulted in the deaths of more than 100,000 and has left nearly 10 million displaced. According to the UN’s Lakhdar Brahimi, the Syrian government does not appear to be committed to actually discussing a transitional government as they had initially suggested.
