Florida Gov. Rick Scott has just signed a new law that requires that women in the state wait 24 hours after initially visiting a doctor to have an abortion. According to the Miami Herald, the exception to the wait is if women can produce a “police report, court order or medical report proving the pregnancy came as a result of rape, incest, domestic violence or human trafficking.” Advocates of the new measure, like Rep. Jennifer Sullivan, say the intention is to further allow women to take time to make an “informed decision,” as she told the paper, “versus a pressured, rushed, unexpected one.” Opponents of the state law say that it puts an unnecessary obstacle in the way of women who exercise their right to choose to end their pregnancy …
