Three Muslim college students in Chapel Hill, North Carolina were killed last night by a 46-year-old man who has been charged with three counts of first degree murder. The three young victims—turned himself in shortly after the murders. Though police have not released a motive for the crime, online postings by Hicks related to “anti-theism” have led some on social media to speculate that it was possibly a hate crime. Many of the postings on Facebook pages belonging to Hicks contained images and comments that opposed religion, including a recent one that read, “When it comes to insults, your religion started this, not me.
