On the anniversary-ish of his election, CNN’s Alisyn Camerota rounded up a panel of President Donald Trump supporters to see how they’re feeling about the first year of what has been, by all accounts, a wild ride. There were a lot of different thoughts on Trump’s success, including some insights as to why they don’t feel that Trump’s cabinet of millionaires and billionaires constitutes the same sort of “swamp” Trump promised to drain. But a particularly enlightening word came from a supporter named Mark Lee, who owns a pest control business.
“If Jesus Christ gets down off the cross and told me Trump is with Russia, I would tell him, ‘Hold on a second. I need to check with the President if it’s true.’”

“I believe him. He’s a good man,” Lee said when Camerota asked him why he took the President at his word so readily. “And he’s taken so much shots for us.”
The guilt or lack thereof of the President’s dealing with Vladimir Putin is an issue for Robert Mueller to decide, but aside from that, it’s striking how easy it is to put one’s trust in politicians. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God,” the Psalmist says in Psalm 20:7. Or as Bob Dylan said a little more recently: “You gotta serve somebody.”
