‘Twerk Franklin’ Apologizes For ‘Disrespectful’ Performance in Jamaica

It looks like Kirk Franklin wants to start 2025 on the right foot.

In 2024, the gospel artist garnered unexpected controversy when he wore a tank top during a particularly sweaty performance in Jamaica, which shocked some of his fans. At another concert during Franklin’s “Reunion Tour,” the Grammy winner playfully twerked on Clark Sisters member Jacky Clark Chisholm, which shocked just about everybody.

After some time, it’s clear Franklin wanted to get a few things off his chest. The artist recently shared a video apologizing to anyone who was offended by his performances.

“I am aware now that my choice of attire, which as a team we thought was going to be fine being outside in the weather, was going to be something that would not come across as disrespectful,” Franklin said about his outfit in Jamaica. “I’ve spent most of my career dancing and moving around and jumping on stage that I didn’t know that I would ever do anything that would ever offend anyone in any community, but it did. And because it did, I sincerely apologize.”

He continued, “I sincerely apologize because I never want to get to a place that I can’t learn,” adding, “It doesn’t matter what my goal and intent is; if I’m louder than the message of Jesus, then I failed.”

As for the twerking incident, Franklin admitted his dancing was “too much,” but he insists he’s friends with those he’s usually onstage with.

“I shouldn’t have been playing out there in front of y’all,” he added. “I should have kept that to myself and had fun with them the way I do when we be acting a fool. But sometimes I get on my own nerves. And when I was doing it, it seemed fine. When I saw the clip, yeah, it’s too much.”
