Unequal: Can Race and Gender Shrink Your Paycheck?

Women today are more likely than men to complete college and go to graduate school. They also make up nearly half of the country’s total workforce. But a new report from the White House shows that although women have made advances in education and employment, a significant pay gap between the sexes still exists. At the rate progress is going, it will take until 2059 for the gap to finally be closed. Here’s a look at what this pay gap looks like, and how it impacts the earning potential of women across the country.

Your company’s CEO is probably named John

There are more executives named John than there are female executives. Period.

20 lowest paying jobs: 56% women
Of the country’s 20 lowest-paying jobs, women make up 56 percent of the workers. In the highest paying 20, they make up only 29.

Women of color face even larger GENDER pay gaps than their white counterparts:
77¢- white
60¢- African American
55¢- Hispanic

    Studies show that even with a master’s degree, women actually make less then their male counterparts who only have a bachelor’s degree by $5,000
