Washington State Suspends the Death Penalty

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee has announced that he is suspending the use of the death penalty in his state, saying, “I’m not convinced equal justice is being served.” Inslee told reporters that he carefully studied the state’s use of capitol punishment and came to the conclusion that the manner in which some inmates were executed demonstrated inequality in the criminal justice system. He also noted that many times the death penalty is used erratically because of local budgets.
