Watchdog: All of Syria’s Chemical Weapons Facilities Have Been Destroyed

An update from the watchdog group The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons has confirmed that Syria has met critical a deadline in their disarmament agreement by destroying all of their chemical weapons production facilities. As part of an ambitious deal outlined in an effort by the United States and Russia, Syria agree to get rid of all of its chemical weapons by specifically outlined dates in order to avoid American military intervention in the region’s on-going conflict. On Aug. 21, the Syrian military was believed to have launched a horrific gas attack on a neighborhood (they believed had ties to rebel groups) in Damascus, killing hundreds of civilians, including children. Now that all of the country’s chemical weapons facilities have been eliminated (meeting the Nov. 1 deadline), the country is expected to destroy all of its stockpiles by mid-2014 …
