I recently Twittered about my regret in somehow overlooking Kings of Leon‘s Only By The Night. The album released last fall, but I hadn’t given it a listen until just a few weeks ago. And of course, I can’t stop listening to it. Incredible music.
That embarrassingly late discovery of something everyone already knew forced me to realize my last round of real musical exploration (i.e., purchasing albums en masse) was all the way back around Lollapalooza. Disgraceful, I know. But I’m making up for lost time and am now wearing out the recommendations features at Amazonmp3.com and iTunes. So, in an attempt to aid any other lost souls like me, here are some of my favorite recent releases, in no particular alphabetical order:
Animal Collective, Merriweather Post Pavillion
The Avett Brothers, Emotionalism
Andrew Bird, Noble Beast
Blitzen Trapper, Furr
Bon Iver, Blood Bank EP and For Emma, Forever Ago
Kings of Leon, Only By The Night
Jenny Lewis, Acid Tongue
Q-Tip, The Renaissance
Ra Ra Riot, The Rhumb Line
The Welcome Wagon, Welcome to the Welcome Wagon
Kanye West, 808s & Heartbreak
That’s by no means an exhaustive list, and it’s not to mention the vast number of yacht rock and new wave classics I’ve been downloading as well. So, I want to know: What great music have you discovered recently? I’d love to find even more new releases to fall in love with.
(Make sure to post links! And let’s keep the conversation to stuff that’s released since, say, October—we’ve all heard Fleet Foxes, TV on the Radio, Cold War Kids, The Cool Kids, etc.)
