Kids these days, with their Ariana Grande, Tumblrs and high-minded ideas about “eating healthy,” are getting a little too cool for McDonald’s. The company has been struggling with flat sales, and they’re blaming Millennials, who are just too fancy-schmancy for fast food anymore. Or, at least, if they’re going to get some fast food, it’s going to be of the more customizable, natural variety, like Chipotle. According to the Wall Street Journal:
Increasingly, younger diners are seeking out fresher, healthier food and chains that offer customizable menu options for little more than the price of a combo meal.
The percentage of people age 19 to 21 in the U.S. who visited McDonald’s monthly has fallen by 12.9 percentage points since the beginning of 2011, according to Technomic, while the percentage of customers age 22 to 37 visiting monthly during that period has been flat.
Come on, Millennials. Get your act together. McDonald’s is counting on you …
