The world waits in breathless anticipation as TIME announced the shortlist for 2013’s “Person of the Year.” As always, readers cast a vote on which person gets named, but the editorial board over there calls the final shots—so you should be only marginally concerned that Miley Cyrus will take the top honor—and, it should be noted, the “Person of the Year” award is not necessarily given to the year’s best person, but to the year’s most influential, for good or bad.
