For a period of about nine hours yesterday, the relatively few people in North Korea who have access to computers and smart phones, completely lost connection to the Internet. Though the country has come back online since then, service has reportedly been “spotty.” The question is, who took it out? After U.S. intelligence said North Korea was responsible for the Sony hack that delayed the release of their Kim Jong Un assassination film The Interview, ultimately costing the company hundreds of millions of dollars, President Obama promised to “respond proportionally.” A State Department spokesperson wouldn’t comment on whether the U.S. knocked out the Internet in North Korea yesterday, and there has been some speculation that other players may be involved. Vox suggests that China, unhappy with their neighbor’s act of “cyber vandalism” could be responsible, angry hackers might have targeted North Korea or the North Korean government itself took the country offline as a preventative measure …
