World Health Organization Says Processed Meats Cause Cancer

We have some bad news for bacon lovers and individuals that consume a high quantity of hot dogs. A new report from the World Health Organization claims that certain kinds of processed red meats— things like bacon, sausage and hot dogs—cause cancer. They also found a link between all red meats and cancer. Though a panel of health experts from around the world was not unanimous, the report’s ultimate findings were not encouraging if your name is Ron Swanson. The panel cited “substantial epidemiological data showing a positive association between consumption of red meat and colorectal cancer and the strong mechanistic evidence.” Obviously, the news has not gone over well with the meat industry. An executive from the Cattlemen’s Beef Association told The Washington Post: “We simply don’t think the evidence support any causal link between any red meat and any type of cancer.”
