Planned Parenthood Increased Number of Abortions Performed, Decreased Number of Cancer Screenings and Amount of Contraception Provided

Planned Parenthood recently released their 2017-2018 annual report, and according to the organization, in that year alone, they performed 332,757 abortions. That is the most since 2011.

The report also noted an increase in taxpayer funding: Planned Parenthood received more than $563 million in 2017.

However, the amount of contraception the organization provided, as well as the number of cancer screenings and prevention services they provided fell from the previous year.

Following a recent interview with Buzzfeed that carried this headline, “Planned Parenthood’s New President Wants To Focus On Nonabortion Health Care,” the organization’s president, Dr. Leana Wen, tweeted, “I am always happy to do interviews, but these headlines completely misconstrue my vision for Planned Parenthood.”

She also said, “First, our core mission is providing, protecting and expanding access to abortion and reproductive health care. We will never back down from that fight – it’s a fundamental human right and women’s lives are at stake.”
