Atheist Mega-Churches Are Now a Thing

There is a new church trend sweeping the country—God-less mega-churches. According to this Associated Press story, there are at least three dozen of the gatherings that have popped up in cities including Los Angeles, Nashville and New York, where fellow atheists gather for music, inspirational talks and fellowship. The “Sunday Assemblies” movement started as an idea by a British comedy duo, Sanderson Jones and Pippa Evans, who envisioned services where non-believers could have a church-like experience without talk about God or faith. So far, they’ve raised about $50,000 for the Sunday Assemblies. Jones told the AP, “If you think about church, there’s very little that’s bad. It’s singing awesome songs, hearing interesting talks, thinking about improving yourself and helping other people—and doing that in a community with wonderful relationships. What part of that is not to like?” …
