Recently, Elevation Church pastor Steven Furtick opted for a different approach to his weekly sermon: He sat down for an extended conversation with radio personality Charlamagne tha God.
The two are both from the same small town in South Carolina, and even went to the same school. The two visited areas in the town to discuss their own personal stories, their roots and how their upbringings shaped their views of race, social issues and faith.
Charlamagne explained: “If you ask me right now what God wanted me to do … just serve. That’s what you do. You’re a pastor. I feel like I do the same thing. I’m just not a pastor.”
