America is increasingly less religious, says Pew Research Center’s new report, “America’s Changing Religious Landscape.” Researchers undertook two extensive surveys in 2007 and 2014 and found that the number of Americans who identify with no religion grew by more than 6 percentage points during those seven years.
Christians still make up nearly 70 percent of the overall population, but mainline Protestants, evangelicals and Catholics all saw drops.
From Pew: “As a rising cohort of highly unaffiliated millennials reaches adulthood, the median age of unaffiliated adults has dropped to 36, down from 38 in 2007 and far lower than the general (adult) population’s median age of 46.”
