J.I. Packer’s Ministry Is Ending

J.I. Packer’s ministry is coming to an end. The 89-year-old evangelical theologian has been suffering from macular degeneration—a condition that results in blindness—in his left eye for over a decade. This past Christmas, the condition developed in his right eye, as well. Due to the fact that he is now unable to read and write, Packer will no longer be able to travel and speak. “This marks the end of a remarkable writing and speaking ministry,” wrote Justin Taylor, executive vice president of book publishing and book publisher for Crossway. Packer wrote the international best-seller Knowing God and has since been a steady force of influence on evangelicalism. In an interview with The Gospel Coalition, Packer said:

“God knows what he’s doing. And I’ve had enough experiences of his goodness in all sorts of ways not to have any doubt about the present circumstances. Some good, something for His glory, is going to come out of it.”
