World AIDS Day

Just a reminder that today has been set aside as World AIDS Day, to remember the 6,000 children who will lose their parents to AIDS today…and every other day. Do something about it. Here is an excellent video and list of stuff happening today across the U.S.

Jeremy Cowart’s beautiful book of photojournalism, Hope in the Dark (published by Relevant Books), is still one of the best windows into the AIDS crisis in Africa. Buy it if you get a chance.

Closer to home, there’s this news from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention: AIDS and HIV infection rates among young people in the U.S. are actually going up. That’s not good.

I’m reminded of this prayer for the suffering from the Book of Common Prayer: Look with pity, O heavenly Father, upon the people in this land and across the world who live with injustice, terror, disease, and death as their constant companions. Have mercy upon us…
