The Marriott Is Adding the Bible and the Book of Mormon to 300,000 New Hotel Rooms

For years now, the Bible has been a fairly regular feature in hotel rooms across America, thanks largely to the tireless efforts of Gideons International. But now Marriott is adding the Bible and the Book of Mormon to 300,000 new hotel rooms, and they’re doing it all on their own.

It seems in 2016, Marriott made two big purchases: a hotel chain called Starwood and hundreds of Bibles and the Book of Mormon. Marriott is owned by members of the Mormon Church, and issued a statement to the AP saying “There are many guests who are not digitally connected who appreciate having one or both of these books available. It’s a tradition appreciated by many, objected to by few.”

And those who do object to it have the law to contend with. Marriott requires franchisees to place a copy of both books in every room, according to the contract.
