Lifeway Research recently released new poll wherein 1,000 pastors were interviewed about church discipline. Of those interviewed, the majority (55%) said, “A member has not been formally disciplined since I came as pastor nor prior as far as I know.”
Only 8% of those surveyed said a church member had been disciplined in the last year, and 21% said it has been at least three years since a church member was disciplined.
18% pastors said that their church has “no official policies in place for disciplining members.”
Executive Director at Lifeway Scott McConnell told The Christian Post, “It’s one of the topics that churches rarely talk about.”
