A $315,000 Hamburger
BY RELEVANT ISSUE 57 / LIFE May 12, 2011
Scientists in the netherlands have discovered a way to use stem cells to grow muscle tissue in a lab. The goal is to create a fully lab-grown hamburger by the end of 2012… at a cost of about $315,000.
While it might seem silly, the scientists involved are trying to find a way to create meat with less environmental impact than raising livestock. The lead researcher says the lab-grown meat could decrease the environmental impact by 60 percent.
