We have some friends who are adopting two children from Uganda, Nathan and Rebecca. Our church put on a fundraising dinner for them on Saturday. It was an awesome time, people turned out from all over–church people, friends, co-workers–and gave generously. We had a guest speaker talk about the fundamental call to take care of orphans and widows. It was challenging and convicting. I thought he took a fair and balanced approach. Not everyone will adopt, or can adopt, but everyone can help through prayer, finances, support and awareness.

On a sidenote: I was the MC and at the end we had a long list of giveaways to announce. The person doing the give aways gave me a hand-written list of prizes and winners. I had to read it for the first time on the go. At one point I came across a name that we couldn’t find in the audience. I kept announcing the person’s name, “Mary Kay Lohan,” over and over again. I finally realized, after many drawn out attempts to find Mrs. Lohan,  it was actually the prize, Mary Kay Lotion. Whoops.
