In last week’s Neue Weekly we asked you what the two most important reads where for someone that was brand-spankin’ new to ministry. With the amount of books out there on ministry, church and leadership, the possibilities are endless so we thought we’d let you know what other ministry leaders suggested. We asked, you answered. Here’s some of the feedback you gave us. (Feel free to add your own recommendations as well!)
Two most important books for someone new to ministry:
Discipleship by Bonheoffer
Pagan Christianity by Viola
–Mike Rogers
I am a youth pastor. My first few years of youth ministry would’ve been exceedingly difficult without Your First Two Years In Youth Ministry by Doug Fields, The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. I’d also throw A Long Obedience In the Same Direction by Eugene Peterson in there. No pastor or youth pastor should be without these books!!!
–Adam Young
21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John Maxwell
Next Generation Leader by Andy Stanley
–David Walters
In the name of Jesus by Henri Nouwen
Prayer by Richard Foster
(Though NT Wright’s Surprised by Hope would be jumping up there.)
–Jim Nichols
Working the Angles by Eugene Peterson.
A Tale of 3 Kings by Gene Edwards.
–Brian Kono
