There is a guy that i recently heard about who is reaching out to his Twitter fan base to raise the money necessary to plant a church. Here’s his pitch:
What would happen if a missionary used Twitter to help start a new church? Let’s find out. I want everyone on Twitter who found this page to donate $2/week to Gulf Church (just for 2009). You probably give this much to Starbucks at least once a week, so why not fund a missionary instead? Ok, so here’s the problem…everyone reading this is thinking “clever idea, I’m sure someone will help them”, but the truth is that I need you to help us. For this to work as many people as possible need to contribute because no one person is giving very much. After you give I’ll post a link to your Twitter page (with your permission) so that everyone can follow you. [http://www.gulfchurch.com/twitter]

Do you feel good about how the Church is using technology to further the Kingdom of God? Would you HONESTLY give up your Starbucks money to give to a church plant? Would you have to have a personal relationship with someone to feel good about giving to their cause? Why or why not?
