The economy is hitting churches on the denominational level. The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has had to lay off 13 full time employees and close six of its regional development offices. Over the past several months, the denomination has cut 10 percent of its staff from its national headquarters in Louisville, Ky, and reduced its annual budget by $4 million.
