According to researchers from Florida State University, relationships built on a shared belief in God don’t just survive—they thrive.
Over a four-week experiment, the researchers studied both couples who prayed together daily and couples who had positive interactions like discussing uplifting news stories. The study found that couples who prayed for each other regularly felt closer, more unified and actually trusted each other more than couples who didn’t.
“Praying together enhances relationship trust by fostering a sense of unity between partners,” researchers wrote.
In other words, God-centered relationships are working smarter, not harder.
The Institute for Family Studies backs this up, noting that spiritual practices like prayer act like relationship glue—especially when life gets messy. Couples who share faith aren’t just more likely to stick it out. They’re also more likely to forgive, communicate openly and resist the urge to throw in the towel when things get tough.
Additionally, the study found that praying together actually reduces infidelity risk and boosts relationship satisfaction.
As it turns out, “pray together, stay together” isn’t just a cute saying—it’s science.
