Let This Police Officer Remind You to Go Above and Beyond Today

13-year-old Sumter, South Carolina resident Cameron Simmons was upset after a fight with his mother, and called police to let them know about it. He said he’d been arguing with his mom too much and didn’t want to live with her anymore. Officer Gaetano Acerra took the call and returned Cameron to his house. “I said, ‘You have it good, you have a roof over your head,'” Officer Acerra told local news. “I told him I would try to help him out, and here we are now.”

After Officer Acerra realized that Cameron didn’t have much of a home to go back to—including no mattress and no real bedroom to speak of—he decided to go way above and beyond the call of duty. He returned a few days later with a new bed for Cameron, along with a TV, a desk, a chair and even a Wii. He plans on bringing Cameron more furniture and, more importantly, he plans on keeping up their friendship.”I didn’t do this for publicity or to get people to notice me,” Acerra told reporters. “I did it because I could. It was the right thing to do and I think people should do things like this” …
