Picture this: You’ve matched with someone on a dating app. Sparks are flying through text, and it’s finally time for the first date. They ask you where you want to meet, and you suggest… Chick-fil-A.
According to a new survey by DatingNews.com, that’s what most guys are likely to do. The survey found that more and more first dates are going for casual fast food spots in lieu of real restaurants. And yes, out of 3,000 American men surveyed, Chick-fil-A was the No. 1 spot for a first date.
Listen, we get the appeal. It’s cheap, has impeccable customer service and, of course, waffles fries. So it’s not totally surprising the fast food chain would be the top pick. But Chick-fil-A isn’t the only chain getting some love. Dairy Queen came in second place, followed by Sonic Drive-In and Pizza Hut tied for third.
“The old-school method of taking a new date out for dinner has been replaced by casual quick-service dates at coffee shops, bars, and even fast-food joints,” said Amber Brooks, editor-in-chief at DatingNews.com. “A first date is a risk, and in this economy, modern singles are saving their time and money by opting for a chicken sandwich over a chicken marsala.”
As it turns out, women aren’t too mad about fast food dates. The survey revealed that 66% of women said they’d say yes to a first date at a fast food restaurant.
Other budget-friendly date ideas from the survey’s respondents included a coffee shop date, a movie marathon at home, a food truck stop and a walk around town and a picnic with items from the dollar menu. So whoever said that you need to wine and dine a date hasn’t tried dating in this economy.
