Study: 40% of Americans Live Paycheck to Paycheck

Even though there are signs that the job market and economy are improving, a new report from Springleaf Financial has found that 40 percent of all Americans live paycheck to paycheck. Somewhat surprisingly, that group spans across education levels and salary amounts. In fact, 25 percent of people with graduate degrees “couldn’t miss a single month of paychecks without having to borrow or sell assets.” The report also revealed that nearly a quarter of all Americans have less than $250 in their bank accounts by the time pay day rolled around. As this recent piece from The Atlantic shows, because of factors like debt, millennials are increasingly unlikely to have any money saved.
