LEGO Is Making a Set to Celebrate Women in Science

Some pretty inspiring LEGOs are hitting toy stores soon.

Last month, LEGO announced it is creating a minifigure—”minifigs,” if you didn’t know—set featuring five women pioneers of outer space. The announcement is coming on the heels of the film Hidden Figures and the a growing movement to highlight women who were pioneers in science, technology, engineering and math.

The LEGO set will feature Margaret Hamilton, a computer scientist and systems engineer; Katherine Johnson, an African American physicist and mathematician; Sally Ride, an American physicist and astronaut;  Nancy Grace Roman, an American astronomer and one of the first female executives at NASA; and Mae Jemison, an American engineer, physician and astronaut.

The idea for the set was submitted to LEGO Ideas by Maya Weinstock, Deputy Editor of MIT News and attracted some 10,000 supporters.
