The Chicago House From ‘Family Matters’ Is Being Torn Down

It’s a rare condition, this day and age, to read any good news on any web page.

And if you’re looking to find good news, you’ll have to look elsewhere, because we bring you sad tidings about the matter of a certain family house that may have been important to you in your childhood. The Chicago home that served as the exterior of the Winslow family on Family Matters is being demolished.

Evidently, the house at 1516 W. Wrightwood Avenue wasn’t built terribly well, according to the owners, and had been due for a demolition for quite some time (with all the havoc inflicted on it by Urkel, it’s a wonder it’s stayed up for this long).

“In honoring the site’s past, they plan to decorate the entry with framed photographs of the original house and the show’s beloved cast,” said a realtor spokesperson, so that’s something. You can demolish the house, but you can never take away the real love that was bursting out of every seam.
