Because he’s so relatively young, Barack Obama’s post-president life has been the subject of a lot of speculation. Whatever he and former first lady Michelle decide to do, money won’t be a factor—at least not now that they’ve signed a $60 million book deal with Penguin Random House publishers.
For context, president Bill Clinton got $15 million for his post-presidency book deal, and president George W. Bush got $10 million.
The one deal is reportedly for two books, one by Michelle and the second from Barack. Apparently, Penguin won a tight race with other major publishers like Simon & Schuster, Macmillan and Harper Collins. Penguin House CEO Markus Dohle added, “With their words and their leadership, they changed the world, and every day, with the books we publish at Penguin Random House, we strive to do the same.”
