Watch a Former Westboro Member Discuss the Power of Love and Dialogue

Megan Phelps-Roper grew up in the Westboro “Baptist Church” cult—a hate group mostly comprised of members of a single family known for protesting funerals of American soldiers, and targeting Jews and members of the gay community with hate-filled messages. However, Megan has since left the group, and is speaking out against their message.

In this moving TED Talk she explains what caused her to leave the group and it’s ideology behind: love, civility and the real message of Jesus.

The brief talk is a powerful look at the impact of loving, thoughtful dialogue and the danger of outrage, trolling and hate.
