American Apparel Has Kicked Out Its CEO Following Misconduct Allegations

Since its opening, American Apparel has been famous for sexually explicit advertising. That advertising took on much creepier connotations following numerous allegations of misconduct against American Apparel’s founder, Dov Charney. The AA board has apparently had enough of such accusations, and voted yesterday to kick Charney out of the company. Allan Mayer, one of AA’s directors, released a statement saying:

“We take no joy in this, but the Board felt it was the right thing to do. Dov Charney created American Apparel, but the Company has grown much larger than any one individual and we are confident that its greatest days are still ahead.”

While AA wouldn’t elaborate on what “misconduct” forced their hand against Charney, the company’s trials have been well-documented. While it’s one of the world’s most recognizable hipster brands, American Apparel has struggled financially. It hasn’t posted an annual profit since 2009 …
