Mark Burnett and Roma Downey’s The Bible miniseries made spectacular showing in Sunday night ratings, with over 14.8 million viewers tuning in. That makes The Bible Sunday night’s most watched show and puts it in strong standing to be the number one cable show of the year.
Critics were divided in their reviews. The New York Times was unimpressed, calling The Bible “a tableau of great biblical moments that doesn’t convey why they’re great.” The Christian Post‘s Dr. Geoff Tunnicliffe, however, praised the series, saying “For someone that has read and taught the Bible for most of his life, I had a remarkable spiritual and emotional experience. The theme of God’s love and hope for all humanity is the thread that holds the entire series together.”
