Conservatives Critique Candy Crowley

CNN’s Candy Crowley, who moderated Tuesday night’s presidential debate, is being called out by Conservatives for what they see as a left bias. Americans For Limited Government released a statement saying, “Crowley’s behavior goes beyond despicable as it was a blatant attempt to influence the presidential election. If CNN wants to maintain any shred of credibility as a ‘news’ organization, they should fire Crowley immediately for her gross violation of whatever remains of journalistic standards.” Of particular note was Crowley stepping into fact check Governor Mitt Romney’s statement that President Barack Obama did not call the assault on Benghazi a terrorist attack. Obama said that he had. Crowley stepped in to say that Obama was right (what Obama actually said was that “no acts of terror” will shake America’s resolve, so it’d be closest to say he implied it.) However, outrage is going beyond that moment and into assertions that she repeatedly shut down Romney. Glenn Beck tweeted that, “Candy loves to police Romney! As soon as he begins to win she shuts him down.” But Alan Schroeder, a professor at Northeastern University and an expert on presidential debates, told CBS that, “It’s such a hyper-politicized environment that people are looking to jump on any slight perception of favoritism one way or the other. This is unusually intense criticism for the moderators, and people are misplacing their focus here.” For her part, Crowley stuck by her performance, telling The View that “People are going to look at this through the prism they look at this through.
