Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Apologized to Boston Bombing Victims Before Being Sentenced to Death

Convicted Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev addressed several victims and families today in at his sentencing hearing, and apologized for the act of terrorism. For the first time in court, Tsarnaev spoke out, saying he was sorry, and referenced his Islamic faith:

I would like to now apologize to the victims, to the survivors. I am sorry for the lives that I’ve taken, for the suffering that I’ve caused you, and the damage that I’ve done.

He also said that he prayed for “Allah to bestow his mercy on those affected in the bombing and their families … I pray for your relief, for your healing. For your well-being, for your health.” He prayed for his own family, as well. Immediately following the address, the judge announced that Tsarnaev would be executed for his crimes. A jury had previously recommended the death penalty, but a separate hearing with a judge is required for the sentence to be officially imposed …
