Kid Suspended from School for Making ‘Terroristic Threat’ with the Tolkien’s One Ring

A 9-year-old in Texas has been suspended from school after administrators say he made a “terroristic threat” with the One Ring from The Lord of the Rings series. The fourth grader had seen the latest Hobbit movie over the weekend, and told another student that he would make him disappear by using a fictional plot device from movies and novels that literally fall in the “fantasy” category. The boy’s father told the New York Daily News, “I assure you my son lacks the magical powers necessary to threaten his friend’s existence. If he did, I’m sure he’d bring him right back.”

Though the school’s principle declined to comment to Yahoo News, the state’s education code does prohibit “threatening to cause harm or bodily injury to another student … or maliciously taking any action that substantially harms another student’s physical or emotional health or safety.” So, to be fair, if this elementary school was in Middle Earth and not the town of Kermit, Texas, the action would have been totally warranted. We were able to finally track down a school administrator responsible for the disciplinary action on the phone, but instead of an explanation, they just kept muttering on about “my precious” …
