Liberia Is Now ‘Ebola Free’

This weekend, government officials in Liberia are expected to announce that the country is officially “Ebola free,” with the last known case of the deadly virus being discovered at the end of March. By Saturday, it will have been twice the incubation period since the last instance of Ebola was discovered. The United Nation’s Children’s Fund head for the Liberian Ebola crisis said, “I’m sure that the sound of 4 million Liberians exhaling will be the sigh heard around the world.” The outbreak killed 4,716 in the country. Though it is on a dramatic decline in neighboring countries, more cases have recently been discovered as officials continue to fight the outbreak.
