Local News Station Attempts to Celebrate Yom Kippur…and Gets It Terribly Wrong

On Tuesday night, a Chicago area news WGN station got a lesson in cultural sensitivity when they covered Yom Kippur and accidentally used the Nazi’s yellow concentration camp badge rather than the iconic (and easily recognizable) Star of David.

“The artwork chosen to accompany the story came from a graphics image bank,” said a statement to the press. “Regrettably, we failed to recognize that the image was an offensive Nazi symbol.”

Or, more succinctly, “D’oh!” No word yet on when sensitivity training starts.
