Moody Bible Institute Lifts Their Alcohol Ban

We live in wild times. Government shutdowns. New iPhones. Asian Giant Hornets. And just when you thought things couldn’t get any crazier, something like this happens. Moody Bible Institute, one of the oldest and most respected evangelical colleges in America—and alma mater of Left Behind author and Nicolas Cage-inspirer Jerry Jenkins—has lifted their long-standing ban on faculty drinking. It was a move big enough to warrant attention from the New York Times, who quoted Moody professor Dr. Michael McDuffee as saying: “I had been a man convinced that three drinks can quench our thirst: milk, lemonade and a cold beer. And for 20 years I was drinking milk and lemonade.” The move may be indicative of a much larger shift in evangelical circles (as you may have read) but the new rule is not a major leap.
