Science: Watching Porn Linked to a Decrease in Gray Matter

If you needed another reason to not be a consumer of pornography, here’s one from science: it might literally be rotting your brain. From the Huffington Post:

“Our findings indicated that gray matter volume of the right caudate of the striatum is smaller with higher pornography use,” the researchers wrote in the journal article, referring to an area of the brain associated with reward processing and motivation. Men who watched more porn also showed less activity in another area of the striatum, called the left putamen, which usually lights up in response to sexual images.

Those are a lot of big words that essentially mean there’s a correlation between a high consumption of pornography and a low amount of gray matter in the brain. Now, the jury is still out on whether watching porn actually eats away at your gray matter or people who have less gray matter to begin with are more likely to consume pornography is higher quantities, but either way, studies show that it’s not an intellectually healthy activity …
